The survey component of Phase 1 of the SKA will be located in Western Australia, and will consist of 96 antennas, each equipped with a phased array feed. The instrument will be a substantial improvement on ASKAP in terms of sensitivity and survey speed. I will review the recently published baseline design and outline the primary science goals of this instrument, noting possible synergies with surveys being planned at other wavelengths.
