Stas Shabala Astronomical Society of Australia Annual Scientific Meeting including HWWS 2013

Stas Shabala

Stas Shabala is an ARC Early Career Fellow at the University of Tasmania. His primary area of research is Active Galactic Nuclei, and specifically their radio jets. Stas has spent many a sleepless night trying to figure out what causes the jets to switch “on” and “off”, and how the energy they pump out during their active state affects the galaxies they live in. He also develops ways of using radio jets as cosmic lighthouses, making them useful for studies of geophysical processes on Earth (plate tectonics, sea level rise) as well as satellite navigation - see http://space-geodesy.nasa.gov for more details.
